Gavilan hosts Fourth Annual Andrel Gaines Memorial Classic
GILROY – After playing three of its last four games on the road, the Gavilan College men's basketball team is back home this week to host the Fourth Annual Andrel Gaines Memorial Classic.
The tournament is named in honor of former Ram Andrel Gaines. Gaines tragically lost his life in 2011 when the car he was riding in was struck by a drunk driver. He was just 19 years old and was about the begin his freshman season on the Rams basketball team.
"We are excited to once again be hosting the Andrel Gaines Memorial Classic here at Gavilan College to remember, celebrate, and honor the life of a fellow Ram," said Gavilan head coach Henry Anyiam. "This event serves as a reminder for us all to cherish the time that we get to spend with our friends, family, and loved ones. It is also a reminder to our student-athletes to always appreciate the opportunity that they have been given to take the field or court and play a sport that they are passionate about.
"We thank Feather River College, Cabrillo College, and Simpson University JV for joining us this year."
