Fortenberry gets first win, Rams beat Cabrillo 58-36

APTOS – It may have taken longer than expected, but new Gavilan College women's basketball head coach Carlton Fortenberry finally has his first win.

Gavilan got off to a fast start and closed out the contest with a solid fourth quarter on its way to a 56-36 Coast Conference South Division victory at Cabrillo College on a Wednesday night.

The Rams outscored the host Seahawks 19-6 in the first quarter and poured it on with 20 points over the final 10 minutes. Gavilan held a commanding 30-11 advantage at halftime.

The victory also snapped a long losing streak for the program. Gavilan won for the first time in 32 games, dating back to last season.

The Rams (1-19 overall, 1-5 CCSD) return to action on Friday (Feb. 2) when they host Monterey Peninsula College in a 7 p.m. Coast South Division game.
