KENTFIELD – Emiliana Bejarano totaled 18 points and 9 rebounds to help lead the Gavilan College women's basketball team to its first win, a 55-52 victory on Friday at the College of Marin Don Barksdale Tournament.
The Rams would go on to split their games at the tourney as Gavilan suffered a 75-42 loss in Saturday's finale to host Marin.
Gavilan has to come from behind late to pull off Friday's win. The Rams trailed 41-31 heading into the fourth quarter before outscoring Yuba 24-11 over the final 10 minutes to earn the hard-fought victory.
Bejarano added 6 steals as well as an assist to her game-high 18 points. Yjana Pugh came off the bench to contribute 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals. And Guin Lanes sank a pair of three-pointers on her way to 10 points.
The Rams had a tougher time against Marin. Gavilan fell behind 22-13 after the opening quarter and couldn't recover.
Alexa Flores was solid with a team-high 15 points to go with 8 rebounds while Bejarano had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She nearly had a triple-double but ended with 7 assists.
Gavilan, now 1-2 overall, is back in action on Friday (Nov. 14) at 3 p.m. when the Rams host Cuesta College in their home opener.
