Josue Salgado returns to take over Gavilan women’s soccer program

Gavilan College Director of Athletics and Kinesiology Jamie Adams has announced the hiring of Josue Salgado as the Rams’ new women’s soccer head coach. Salgado, a former Gavilan student-athlete, returns to the college after serving as the men’s soccer head coach in 2023.

“Josue’s return is a special moment for our program,” said Adams. “As a former Gavilan student-athlete and head coach of the men's program, he understands the pride, work ethic, and community that define Rams soccer. We’re excited to welcome him back to lead our women’s program and continue building a culture of excellence on and off the field.”

In 2023, Salgado helped relaunch the Gavilan’s men’s soccer program that went dormant following the 2018 season. His 2023 squad compiled a winning record in its first season back, going 12-10 overall while finishing fifth in the Coast Conference North Division at 5-8.

Salgado also currently serves as the Christopher High School boy’s soccer head coach. He recently led the Cougars to an undefeated (7-0-3) Blossom Valley Athletic League title while his squad advanced to the Central Coast Section Division III Finals. CHS closed out the season with an impressive 14-2-5 overall record.

As a student-athlete, Salgado starred at Christopher High School before playing two seasons at Gavilan in 2013 and 2014. He transferred to UC Santa Barbara to finish out his collegiate career, appearing in 22 matches over his junior (2016) and senior (2017) seasons.
