Rams roll to 12-4 rout at Laney

OAKLAND — A balanced offensive attack and a solid outing on the mound lifted the Gavilan College Rams to a 12-4 road victory over the Laney College Eagles on Thursday.

Gavilan broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning, highlighted by Jacoby Huerta's two-run double, which gave the Rams a lead they would not relinquish. The Rams continued to tack on runs in the middle innings, capitalizing on timely hitting and aggressive baserunning.

Offensively, Jacob Gilbreath led the way, going 3-for-5 with three RBI. Ricky Wilkerson added two RBIs while Orlando Lewis finished with multiple hits and scored twice. Jesus Castro chipped in with an extra-base hit and crossed the plate in Gavilan's extended rallies.

On the mound, Wyatt Barton earned the win for the Rams, working six innings and allowing just one run while striking out four. Barton kept Laney's hitters off balance, limiting hard contact before turning the game over to the bullpen.

The victory was the first for the Rams this season. Gavilan, now 1-3 overall, is back in action on Saturday (Jan. 30) when it hosts Laney in a 1 p.m. game to close out the three-game set.
